How To Prepare for FRI.Complete FRI Msc in Forestry PG Entrance Guide.
Forest Research Institute Dehradun is one of the best in the country in its niche. It offers four courses for masters viz Wood Science and Technology, Environment Management(Most useless degree), Forestry, and Cellulose and paper.
Courses Offered:
- M.Sc FORESTRY: Bachelor’s degree in Science with at least one of the subject namely Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Forestry.
- M.Sc WOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: Bachelor’s degree with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or B.Sc. degree in Forestry.
- M.Sc ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT: Three years Bachelor’s degree in any branch of basic or applied Sciences or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Agriculture or BE in Environment Science.
- M.Sc. CELLULOSE & PAPER TECHNOLOGY: Three years Bachelors' Degree in Science with Chemistry as one of the subject, BE/ B.Tech. (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering).
FRI ENTRANCE TEST:
i) Mathematics (40) -This tests your 10th level maths (a few questions are of senior secondary level too). Its a very scoring part and I suggest you to aim for all 40 questions.
ii) Basic Sciences (40) -This mainly has questions from ecology, botany, forestry, environmental sciences and zoology.
iii) English(30) -This tests very basic English. You need not even prepare for this; just acquainting yourself with the type of questions will do.
iv) General Knowledge/Current Affairs(30)-This section has 10th class level questions on Geography, Civics, History, Biology and Physics besides current affairs.
v)Social Sciences(20)-This covers History, Civics and Geography (higher secondary level again).
vi)Physical Sciences(40)- This has senior secondary level questions on Physics and Chemistry.

- For Quantitative Aptitude
- For Basic Plant Ecology
- Plus Any Bsc Graduation Level Forestry Book.
- Optional:For the basic sciences part, learn the NCERTs from 8th to 12th Class.
